Who was that guy? Why did he shoot the other guy? What in the name of all that's holy happened to his spirit to destroy it like that?

All good questions, and you're going to spend most of the rest of the game finding the answers. From now on, a ghost isn't really safe until he or she enters the light. Before that, well ... there are worse things than death, apparently.
