.. Why can't I read the book on Nancy's desk in the intro?

In previous games, if you wanted a tutorial, you could read the brown book on Nancy's desk to find out how to navigate within the game. This time, however, there's a tutorial available from the main menu that you can run through any time, and the book on Nancy's desk is just a bit of the background.
