There's that panel in the bottom. I bet the tokens are there.

How do I open the panel?

You need something that you can use as a flat-head screwdriver. You will find that item eventually, move forward.

Tell me what item I should use

Try to win the La Befana figurine from the Witch Contest. It can be used as a flat-head screwdriver on the panel.
Pick up some tokens.
