This is not the usual portal-and-white-light place we usually see in the void. This is more like ... limbo. There's not much to do here, is there? Walk around a bit to see what you can find.

Off to the right, you'll find the spirit of Rosa's aunt Lauren. See what she knows.

There's nothing else to do but talk, so ask her everything. After you've run through the list, though, Rosa seems to just lose energy to do anything but sit and stare.

We need some outside help. Switch back to Joey when the emptiness gets boring.

What should Joey do in the asylum?

When Joey has done everything he can in the asylum, you automatically return to Rosa in limbo. But something has changed.

Rosa can now just about hear Joey's voice as he pleads with her to wake up. See if you can find the source of that voice.

Stand up and walk around the corner to the right to see what's there. At first glance, it just looks like more nothing --

-- except there's a ledge that seems to lead up. Rosa says she can't reach it on her own, so she needs Lauren's help.

Go back to Lauren and convince her to help you; she grumbles, but eventually she complies. Climb up the ledge as far as you can, then go into the light to find yourself in your usual platform with the void and the white light. Going through the portal returns Rosa to her body in the asylum, and an unpleasant awakening that must be.
